In Merienda, he encounters a royal envoy that is search for a new chef for the king. They offer him a reward if he finds a great chef. After a fruitless search, Groo returns to Alumerzo and kidnaps the king's cook. The king of Merienda is pleased with the new cook and has him prepare a fabulous banquet for the king of Alumerzo, King Sopa. King Sopa offers his friendship to the king of Alumerzo and wishes to meet the cook. Upon discovering that it is his very own cook, King Sopa declares war on Merienda.
