How these numbers work
Every figure comes from live eBay asking prices for the standard cover of each book, ungraded unless it says CGC. A book's price is its typical ask when it has at least 5 listings, otherwise its lowest ask. Prices in dollars and pounds are converted at today's ECB rates.
The index compares each book's price with its own price the week before and averages those changes (a geometric mean, as official price indices do), then chains the weeks together from 100. A book that triples or loses two thirds in a week is left out of the average: that is nearly always a listing for the wrong book.
Asking prices are what sellers want, not what buyers paid. More on how prices work.
