The Umbra Sprite, fearful of the sudden revealing of Excalibur calls the Grackleflints back to the Styx Casino. Kevin Matchstick and Mirth spend the entire issue debating the relative merits of being a hero. In the end Kevin finally picks up Excalibur, ready to infiltrate The Styx. In the conclusion to the Grendel back-up story, Christine Spar, who has been narrating the story, concludes by saying that Grendel's criminal empire collapsed quickly, and Stacy Palumbo ended up in a mental institution for years. Stacy eventually married her therapist when she grew up, but then he went insane on their wedding night. He raped her and killed himself. Stacy was rendered even more mentally unstable for the rest of her life. The child that was born of her rape grew up to be Christine Spar, who eventually came into possession of Grendel's journals upon her mother's death.
